Facial harmony describes how well a face's measurements agree with one another: feature sizes that suit each other, spacing that stays consistent, and proportions that hold across the whole face rather than in one region.

The three components most often named are feature-size agreement, spacing consistency, and proportion coherence between features. Some sources call the same construct facial balance or feature coherence, and both word orders, face harmony and harmony facial, describe the identical relationship. Facial features are the parts themselves: eyes, nose, mouth, jaw. Facial harmony is about how those parts relate to each other, not the quality of any one measured alone. Why harmony is a relation, not a feature

Facial harmony is a property of the set of measurements, not of any single one inside it. A component with no suitable reference is excluded and named rather than scored as zero.   2. Mark the three horizontal thirds: hairline, brow line, nose base, chin.
  3. Mark the five vertical fifths, using one eye's width as a column.
  4. Compare each segment to the others, not to an ideal, and note which one sits furthest from the rest.

What Your Facial Harmony Score Means

There is no published population percentage for facial harmony, because no study has published this statistic. What this tool reports instead is your own agreement figure: how widely your six measurements differ from each other.

Your agreement figure places into a labeled band, derived from the same reference distributions used to standardize each component and published, with its derivation, on /methodology. A weighted sum of components measures level: where your features sit on average against their references. Agreement is a different quantity: how far apart those same components sit from each other. A tool that reports one is not reporting the other, and this page prints both, side by side, rather than merging them into one score.

Good harmony, poor harmony, and what "perfect" would mean

Good facial harmony describes a narrow spread among your six measurements, poor or low facial harmony describes a wide one, and both are common, ordinary patterns rather than exceptions. A spread of zero is not a target: it would mean every component sat identically against its own reference population, a pattern this instrument has never measured. Perfect harmony, in that sense, is the theoretical zero point of a statistic that never reaches zero on a real face, which matters more for reading your own number than comparing it against anyone else's.

Good Features, Bad Facial Harmony: What the Phrase Actually Describes

Good features paired with bad facial harmony, and the reverse, are both real measurable patterns. Features that individually sit high against their references can still sit far apart from each other, and ordinary features can sit close together. The pattern the phrase names is high level paired with wide spread; its mirror image, an ordinary level with a narrow spread, gets described far less often. The phrase arrived as a video format before it became a measurement question, younger than the anatomy it discusses. A wide spread licenses one thing: your six components disagree with each other more than most measured faces do. It licenses nothing about which feature is at fault. Facial harmony vs symmetry is a common comparison, and the short answer is that they measure different things. A symmetry percentage compares one half of your face with the other. A golden-ratio proximity score compares your ratios with a fixed convention. An agreement figure compares your own components with each other. Several tools online use the word harmony while returning one of the other two numbers, and a symmetry percentage relabeled as harmony is still a symmetry percentage. None of the three substitutes for either of the others, because each answers a separate question about the same photograph.

What the Evidence Says About Facial Harmony and Attractiveness

Four lines of published evidence bound what this page claims, strongest first. Faces are processed configurally, with the spacing between features carrying information the features alone do not, and attractiveness judgments are among the outputs that depend on integrating the whole face rather than one region [1][9]. Distorting one feature changes that whole-face judgment directly. A 2025 experiment that digitally expanded or contracted lip size shifted rated attractiveness of the entire face, an effect that was sex-specific and reversible with exposure. The bound: a laboratory rating task using altered images, not an impression formed of a face in a room [6].

The neoclassical canons this page's manual protocol borrows are a convention, not a law. Equal facial thirds held in neither an Asian nor a Caucasian sample [2]. How to check a harmony score before you believe it

  1. Retake the photo at arm's length with your phone's rear camera.
  2. Hold the lens at eye height, facing you directly.
  3. Keep even, front-facing lighting and a neutral expression.
  4. Compare the component strip between the two results, point by point, rather than the two band labels.

If your two results disagree by more than a small amount, that difference is almost always the photo, not your face. Retake it under the conditions above rather than trust either result alone.

What actually changes it, and what only changes how it reads

Two different things move this number, and they are not the same kind of change. Photographic conditions move it immediately and change nothing about your face: camera distance, lighting, hairline visibility, and expression each shift one or more components between two photos of the same person. Grooming, hairline, and frame choice move how your proportions read to a viewer, and move the actual measurement only where they cross a landmark this test reads. The proportions underneath the number are skeletal, and they stay put either way.

Is the Facial Harmony Test Accurate?

This test is reproducible: the same photo and the same software version return the same agreement figure every time, which is a narrower claim than being right about your face.

Reproducibility, not correctness about your face, is the accuracy claim this instrument makes. A derived quantity like a spread is only as stable as its least stable input.
