Across 50 tracked glow up queries, Americans run about 52,600 Google searches a month. The calendar shows two seasons, May and January, and among searches that name a deadline, 95 percent allow two weeks or less.

When Does the Glow-Up Season Start?
The glow up season starts in May. Summer glow up peaks at 1,900 searches in May 2026 against 90 the previous October, a 21x swing, and how to glow up over the summer swings harder still, 1,300 in June against 10 in November. People plan the summer glow up before summer arrives, not during it.
January is the second season, and it looks different. The queries that spike after New Year are not plans but definitions: glow up meaning jumps to 8,100 in January 2026, nearly double a typical month, and what is a glow up follows the same curve. December carries its own mirror image, with winter glow up peaking at 260 and new year glow up at 140, each more than 10x its off-season floor.
| Query | Peak month | Low month | Swing |
|---|---|---|---|
| summer glow up | May 2026: 1,900 | Oct 2025: 90 | 21x |
| how to glow up over the summer | Jun 2026: 1,300 | Nov 2025: 10 | 130x |
| winter glow up | Dec 2025: 260 | May 2026: 10 | 26x |
| new year glow up | Dec 2025: 140 | Oct 2025: 10 | 14x |
| glow up meaning | Jan 2026: 8,100 | Nov 2025: 4,400 | 1.8x |

How Fast Do Searchers Want to Glow Up?
Among glow up searches that name a timeframe, 95 percent allow two weeks or less. The deadline queries total 2,210 searches a month, and the two largest are overnight and in a week, at 1,000 each. The patient versions barely register: 30 day glow up draws 70, glow up in a month draws 20, and the 75 day glow up challenge draws 10.
| Deadline named | US searches per month |
|---|---|
| how to glow up overnight | 1,000 |
| how to glow up in a week | 1,000 |
| how to glow up in 2 weeks | 110 |
| 30 day glow up | 70 |
| glow up in a month | 20 |
| 75 day glow up challenge | 10 |
That two week window collides with what the evidence says about real change. The interventions with the strongest support, sleep, skincare and grooming consistency, work on a timescale of weeks to months, and the ranking of what actually works is on How to Get a Prettier Face: What Works, Ranked.
Is the Glow Up Past Its Peak?
As a search term, yes. The bare query glow up peaked at 49,500 US searches in September 2023 and runs at 18,100 to 22,200 through 2025 and 2026, down 63 percent from that spike. The word has settled rather than vanished: the volume floor has been stable for two years while the seasonal planning queries above keep their full swing. The trend line reads less like a fad dying and more like a meme becoming a habit.
| Month | glow up, US searches |
|---|---|
| September 2022 | 40,500 |
| September 2023 | 49,500 |
| September 2024 | 22,200 |
| September 2025 | 22,200 |
| July 2026 | 18,100 |
What Else Is in the Data?
- The breakup glow up is its own genre: breakup glow up, post breakup glow up and glow up after breakup together draw 640 searches a month, steady across the whole year.
- Explicitly male phrasings are small but measurable: how to glow up as a guy and glow up tips for guys total 210 a month. The matching for girls phrasings fall below Google's reporting threshold, which is consistent with the female searcher being the unmarked default in this vocabulary.
- Mental and physical qualifiers are both rounding errors: mental glow up plus how to glow up mentally total 60 a month, physical glow up totals 30. When nobody adds a word, the glow up means appearance.
- Every school specific phrasing we tracked, including glow up for school and back to school glow up, fell below the reporting threshold. The back to school story does not resolve in this dataset, though the August 2025 spike in how to glow up in a week, 1,600 against a 1,000 baseline, points the same direction.
Method
- Source: Google Ads search volume data, retrieved through the DataForSEO API on September 2, 2026, United States, English.
- Query set: 50 glow up phrasings selected before any volume was seen, covering how-to, definition, deadline, season, occasion and audience variants. 42 returned reportable data; the 8 that did not are listed in the dataset as below threshold, not as zero.
- History: 12 monthly values per query (August 2025 through July 2026), plus a 48 month series for the head term.
- The full table is one file: glow-up-report.csv, one row per query with its monthly history, source and pull date.
Limits
- Google rounds volumes into buckets, so 22,200 means a bucket, not a count. Swings computed from two buckets are approximate by construction.
- The data covers Google searches in the United States only. TikTok, where much of glow up culture lives, publishes no comparable numbers, so this report measures the searchable slice of the trend, not the whole trend.
- A query below the reporting threshold is not proof of zero interest; it is proof Google does not report it.
- Monthly figures are Google's averages and can be revised by Google after the fact. The pull date in the dataset is the honest timestamp.
One more thing, stated plainly: a glow up plan is a fine thing to want, and a face is geometry, not worth. If appearance checking is taking more of your day than you would choose, the resources on the am I pretty page are there for exactly that.
